Thoughts about effective lawyer marketing
Most of us don’t know how connect with people online. This is a big part of the problem.
Let’s discuss modern marketing, and how to do it well.
First, let’s realize an important truth...
Most of us really don’t know how connect with people online. This is a root problem.
The explosion of social media has distorted reality in many ways —especially what constitutes effective marketing.
Mindlessly copying what others do is not effective. In fact, it’s dangerous.
I started blogging in 2002 when there were maybe four or five other lawyers doing it. There was nothing to copy, which turned out to be a blessing.
Back then, I discovered that one could publish things to the web, and then people could find you and maybe want to connect.
I met a lot of great people from my online connections. I got a lot of great clients easily, at virtually no cost.
A lot has changed since 2002, obviously.
One thing hasn’t: sincere, thoughtful people don’t like being dealt with superficially.
Sincere, thoughtful people want meaningful relationships.
If you want to connect with those people you need to attract them in the right way.
It’s gotten very hard to do this online...but it’s not impossible. I know this from direct, first-hand experience.
Don’t pay attention to people who crave attention, influence, and money. And definitely don’t copy anything they’re doing.
Do you want to connect with those people? Do you admire them?
No? Yeah, me neither.
Look, here’s what you need to do if you want more good clients: present yourself in a way that’s natural and sincere —not superficial or transactional.
You can do this on your website, social media, and anywhere that potential clients might discover you, and try to figure out if they can trust you and want to hire you.
If you want help doing this in a way that’s effective and feels natural, let’s talk.
