You should be aware that "malvertising" is a growing danger when searching or using social media.

What is Malvertising?

Basically, it’s "malicious advertising." It involves the use of online advertising to spread malware. Typically, it involves:

  • Injecting malicious code into legitimate ads or ad networks

  • Displaying infected ads on reputable websites

  • Spreading malware with little to no user interaction required 😳

How Malvertising Works

The process typically involves these steps:

  • Attackers create malicious ads or inject malicious code into legitimate ads

  • Ads are submitted to ad networks, which may not detect the malicious nature

  • Infected ads are distributed to websites through the ad networks

  • Users visit fake websites and are exposed to malicious ads
