“Too many firms create too much complexity, especially when they get started.”
That’s a key observation by Gino Wickman, author of the best-selling book Traction: Get a Grip on Your Business.
He recommends using “models, visuals, acronyms, and checklists to simplify processes and procedures as much as possible.”
Because as your firm grows, it will inevitably get more complex.
Having seen a lot of unnecessary complexity in my 30+ years in the legal profession, Wickman’s observations ring true to me.
Yesterday, I spent an hour in a Zoom session with lawyers who are interested in using the principles of Traction to streamline their law businesses.
We talked about the importance of using proven processes to improve and why we tend to lose momentum.
We also worked through the first 7 questions in Wickman’s Operational Assessment, which was helpful.
If you have a business that needs improvement, I recommend reading Traction.
And if you want to participate in an ongoing chapter-by-chapter group discussion, consider joining my Co-Pilot program.
Regardless of whether you join, I’ll keep trying to help you create traction to build a business that’s smooth-running and profitable.
